AI trains cheap robot dog to coordinate multiple limbs

Artificial Intelligence can train low-cost robots to perform tasks previously achievable by machines ten times more expensive. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University took an off-the-shelf robotic dog and modified it with a robotic arm to pick up objects and press buttons. However, getting arms to work seamlessly with legs usually require far more sophisticated technology and intensive human programming. Instead, Artificial Intelligence was used to teach the robot to successfully operate despite only having a limited number of onboard sensors. This work could pave the way for more affordable complex systems in the future.
